Making a good Basic Will with MyIntent
Making your Will ensures the family and friends who are left when you die are taken care of. If you don't have a Will when you die, then you will die intestate and they may miss out.
When you register and accept the MyIntent Terms of Service, our website helps you gather all the information required and think through the issues it is critical to consider to safely make your Will.
Then, we will send you a Client Care Letter setting out how may receive the legal advice necessary to ensure the Will prepared for you does what you intend it do and who you will receive that advice from. You will need to read, upload your ID and sign that letter to proceed.
The fees that may be charged
The Charge for a Basic Will is £249 including VAT and £349 including VAT if you select the option in the online Will interview for your partner to receive advice with you and a mirror of your Basic Will.
If you need or request a more detailed Will from your Legal Advisor, with more sophisticated drafting, or additional legal services, there will be additional charges.
You will not be charged any fees unless you agree to them and you will be asked to pay the invoice sent to you before your Will is emailed to you.
Qualification for a free charity Will offer
You will qualify for a free Basic Will if you start your Will from the landing page of a participating charity on our Website so that our system recognises you are responding to an offer made by one of our charity partners.
If you qualify, the basic Will is free whether or not you choose to leave a gift in your Will to the charity that paid us so it could make the offer to you, or to any charity. However, we hope you will consider pledging a gift. Our users have pledged over £80m to date.
If you are in a couple and both wish to make free Wills then you must each register separately via a charity's offer. Your applications will be separate and you will be advised separately.
If one of you wishes to take advantage of a free charity Will offer but prefers the same Legal Advisor or same law firm to advise you together and prepare basic Mirror Wills, then the cost of that additional service is £175. In that case, only one of you need register via the charity and should then select the Mirror Will option in the online Will interview.
A summary of what is included in a basic Will
At a minimum, a basic Will from MyIntent will adequately meet your needs once you have executed it correctly. Most of our users complete the process with a basic Will and can do so confidently because they have received legal advice.
The online analysis of your circumstances and wishes and up to 30 minutes of legal advice in a video appointment is included in the cost of a basic Will. You will receive a Basic Will where your Legal Advisor considers it adequate for your needs.
A more sophisticated Will is needed where either:
complex legal advice or detailed drafting is necessary to provide you with a Will that is at least adequate for your needs
you accept our recommendation of additional services that would better protect your family and friends after you death.
Examples of situations where a basic Will may not be suitable
Situations which are common but not simple to deal with legally include:
Previous or ongoing divorce, or separation, or dissolution of a Civil Partnership
Children from different relationships
Excluding someone from your Will who is financially dependant on you
Your Legal Advisor may also recommend or request additional steps are taken when there is, for example, valuable joint property, foreign property, multiple properties, a disabled dependant or significant inheritance tax.
